It was a chance to meet-up with fellow Alumni and others at a place full of Disney history, in this case actual Walt Disney history.
The Disneyland Alumni Club held a Meet-Up at Walt Disney’s Barn. The barn used to sit on the property that was Walt’s home in Holmby Hills. In 1999, it was moved to its current location on the grounds of the Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum in Griffith Park - of which Walt was a founding member.
Club members and those aspiring to join the club got the chance to meet with officers of the club, while seeing and learning about Walt’s love of trains.
Club officer Ed Romero, who is also a volunteer with the Carolwood Foundation which operates the barn, gave personalized tours to dozens of members and others that day.
One of the highlights for club members was a ride behind a real working miniature live steam engine on the LA Live Steamers tracks, which run around the barn.
There were also personalized tours one of the original Combine Cars from the opening day of Disneyland that the Foundation restored and now has on display.
Many people came to the barn for a chance to visit and chat with club officers and learn more about the charitable fundraising efforts the club is doing for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fullerton.
The efforts this year will climax with its Gala Anniversary Celebration honoring Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary the evening of August 1st at the Disneyland Hotel. Folks at the barn learned that the evening’s entertainment at the celebration will include appearances by many Disneyland celebrities including Jim Adams (who performed at the Golden Horseshoe) and Bill Farmer, the voice of Goofy, among others to be announced in the coming weeks.
